Classy ladies are getting rarer these days, so I find myself emulating traditionally feminine behaviors and loving every second of it...

I enjoy taking the time to prepare for a proper night out. Not every evening with my honey is going to be candlelight and cocktails. But when it is, taking a few hours to pull out all the stops (sugar scrub, illuminating face powder, fresh coat of Ballet Slippers) makes the wide-eyed, look-you-up-and-down moment all the sweeter. I long for a plush vanity with perfect lighting, but for now, I'll settle for sitting on the bathroom counter with The Devil Wears Prada playing in the background.

Pink cheeks and black liquid liner have been paired together for ages, and there's a reason for that: it's perfection.

I admittedly have a mondo girl crush on Joy Williams of The Civil Wars. (If you don't know who I am talking about, I urge you to remedy that STAT.) Her rotating wardrobe of flirty-yet-tasteful black, A-line dresses is swoon-worthy. I used to reserve dresses for super special occasions, but I've learned that any day can be a dress day. And let's be honest: when I'm wearing one, I do feel pretty, especially if it's lace or satin. Adds a little skip to my step. (Gotta watch that when rockin' heels, though.)

I finally discovered my signature scent last year. Though I walk through a gentle mist of it daily, I save the hearty sprays for when I'm with my man. It is well known that smell has an incredibly powerful impact on memory, and there's not much sexier than smelling your beloved on you after they've gone. A spritz on the pillowcases is a classic, girly trick that still makes me feel like I should own a velvet fainting couch on which to swoon.
I love being a woman...labor pains, PMS, leg shaving and all.
Ladies, what is your favorite feminine indulgence? Gents, what are your favorite signatures of a woman?

Great post - I really identify with the recent realization that femininity and intelectualism are not, in fact, mutually exclusive. And I, too, found my signature scent in the last year - it was gifted to me for birthday 29 and it will probably be a birthday gift for the rest of my birthdays too :)
ReplyDeleteHey Natalie! This is a very beautiful post. Being in love really makes all of this come out. I'm so happy for you. I love that lace dress you featured. I enjoy pampering myself. Love bath and beauty products. I have a favorite perfume that always makes me happy. It's super light and clean. I hate anything strong. It's important to take care of yourself and you are doing just that. Have an awesome day!

Hey - there's a missing "l" up there in a very ironic place :) Haha. Gotta laugh at myself!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love it. :D I think a lot of us modern gals were convinced that those two could not co-exist. It's such a blessing to learn that we were incorrect in that assumption and to embrace it with gusto!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much, Kim! Baths and products are lovely, indeed. I've paired down on both recently, but they're still such an indulgence. It's like spoiling yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a girly girl myself but having a little girl that's obsessed with everything pink, frou frou skirt and high heels have taught me a thing or two. I do wear more dresses these days and try to leave my hair down instead of tying it back. I've got a long way to go but it gets easier after taking a step into the right direction :)
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! She sounds like one sassy little lady. :) I've learned a lot from others as well, especially since I am naturally such a creature of comfort, which I thought was the antithesis of girlyness. (Word?) But there's a balance...literally, if we're talking heels.
ReplyDeleteDear Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure you're the classiest woman I know. I just wanted to tell you that. Also, it puts a smile on my face to see (read) you so happy. We absolutely MUST hang out soon.
Love, Laura
Aw, Laura, that just made my week! :D Thank you so much. I agree, hanging out soon is a must. Email me some days that are good for you and we'll plan something!
