{Friday's Fancies} Summer to Fall Transition

OK, it's not like the leaves are turning and the brisk days of autumn have descended upon Texas just yet. (Hi, it's 99 degrees. Nor do either of those things really happen during the next few months around here.) But! It has fallen below triple digits, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes have returned, so let's not split hairs about it. I heart fall, and though it'd be less-than-advisable to bust out the scarves and tights just yet, the time is right for starting to think about transitioning my wardrobe. (Which, for me, is a literal transition, since I keep seasonal clothes in plastic bins under the bed to keep my closet neat. Nerd alert!)

Warm florals, like this cutie Mango dress, are perfect for layering with muted, neutral tones in great textures and a soft pop of color to make the move from sweating to sweaters. Ankle booties are a fantastic way to get your boot on without donning anything too heavy before the temps really head south. And all of these pieces will be equally as appropriate several months from now, with the simple addition of some subtly textured tights and a lightweight scarf.

And can we just take a moment for that bag? Michael Kors, you do lovely work.

{Fridays Fancies} Long Weekend

Long weekends may be few and far between, but when they roll around, I can't help by happy dance and throw a little parade. Work can be so stressful, and I unfortunately let it get me down more than I should. But having extra days off to spend with my honey, nest a bit, sip coffee and catch up on R&R, it really is so revitalizing.

And yes, I realize I included a cardi despite the fact that it is still in the triple digits in Texas, but I don't plan on being outside except for some early morning gardening, so bring on the cuddly sweaters and the (mostly functioning) air conditioning. To those of you in breezy climates, soak it up for me, will ya!

Check out my Fancies from last Labor Day {here}! (How has that been a year?!) Funny to see that not much has changed; I can still chatter endlessly about coffee, cardigans, and kitties.

{Friday's Fancies} Treat Time

One of my favorite snacks during the Texas summers is peaches. Good ol' southern peaches make me very, very happy, be they white, yellow, whatever! Summer also tends to get me on a sangria kick. It's like a Pavlovian thing: as soon as the temp gets over 95 and there's even the slightest breeze in the trees, I start salivating for a patio and a cool glass of fruit-infused wine. Now, put these two lovelies together...Ya-hum. Today's fancy was inspired by the vibrant loveliness that is peach sangria.

{Friday's Fancies} Serious Sunnies

A style prompt to take inspiration from great shades? Count me in! Thinking of iconic sunnies, I can't help but immediately picture Ms. Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Dressed to the nines, coffee and donut in hand, and sweet sunnies...gal's got taste, y'all.

I opted for a modern Audrey get-up: classic, stylish, and charming. I am a sucker for Ray Bans any day of the week, and these torties are just fabulous.

{Friday's Fancies} Memorial Day 2013

The long weekend is mere hours away, y'all!

We will be spending part of MDW at the lake house (where we were married) with family and friends, and the other part will likely be spent around the house, working in the yard and catching up on movies when we need a break from the heat.

My ideal summer outfit is lightweight and free from fuss, yet still makes me feel put together (since humidity turns me into a ragamuffin within). Topped with a high pony and sweatproof makeup, this look calls for a cold brew and some fresh fruit by the water.

Top // Belt // Shorts // Sandals
Sunnies // Tote // Earrings // Watch
...And sunscreen. Lots of sunscreen. (Pale girl buzz kill.)

Hope y'all are safe and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

What are you up to this weekend?

Just for fun, check out my Fancies post from last Memorial Weekend.

{Friday's Fancies} Autumn Fave

This week's Fancies are all about finding fashion inspiration from our favorite autumn treats. I am definitely a beverage-loving gal, so it should come as no surprise that most of my must-have fall treats are best served in a giant mug, warm and dressed with love. One particular treat that just embodies autumn in my book: hot apple cider. Nom!

{Friday's Fancies} Fall Day to Night

Tomorrow is officially the first day of fall, and I am silly excited to welcome the season! Not only does it mean I'm ever closer to being a Mrs., but fall fashion makes this cold-natured gal very, very happy.

{Day} Necklace // Bag // Pumps
{Anchors} Studs // Blouse // Belt // Skinnies
{Night} Necklace // Clutch // Platforms

I am wearing pretty much this exact look today, which feels like a nice balance of autumn warmth and my staple neutrals. (A pop of color is about all I can handle without feeling like I'm on parade...or an actual parade.) To get in some QT before M heads out of town for a week-long shoot, we are going to have us a little dinner date tonight, which means I also wanted a look that would transition into the eve. (I am not a fan of sporting two different outfits in a single day, as I still can't seem to find me a laundry fairy.) I tucked in the blouse for a day at the office and kept it casual with a low, messy bun. Tonight, I'll roll up the pant hem a bit and throw on my fabulous Aroundtown kicks. I find that cuffed denim can keep a look contemporary and easy-going without seeming too overt, especially when it comes to skinnies and heels.

What is your trick for transitioning from day to evening?

Check out the other Fancies over at {long distance loving}. They're talking sports and stuff, but the looks are still fabulous as always.

{Friday's Fancies} Back to School

I miss college. I do not miss high school. But I miss college. I had tremendously awesome college experiences. (Yes, plural. Three collages, three states, degree in four years. Good times.) I long for spanky new school supplies and assembling the perfect first-day ensemble. For me, comfort is key. If I'm wearing something fussy, my discomfort will be abundantly apparent (by either my tripping, groaning, or sour expression).

I liked to arrive early to class (shocking), sit near the front but off to the side (preferably near a wall on which I can lean), and feel confident that I looked cute but covered. (No classroom was ever above 45 degrees in my undergrad experience. Except that time I got heat stroke in pottery class. That's all I have to say about that.)

Studs // Watch // Messenger Bag // Blouse
Denim // Glasses // Ring // Oxfords

Confession: I miss my glasses sometimes. I am uber thankful for the gift that is Lasik, but I was totally one of those weirdos who didn't mind the way she looked in glasses. Especially when thinking about school, I have fond memories of dark bookish frames and messy ponytails with bangs. (I guess folks would be none the wiser if I just wore prescriptionless frames, huh? Interesting.)

This outfit pretty well captures the mismash of styles I tend to favor: classic and polished, edgy but cute, trendy yet age-appropriate, and comfy while pulled-together. I'm really digging the oxford trend, y'all. I don't know if I can pull it off, but I wanna.

What fall trend are you flirting with?

Check out more of the Fancies over yonder. And big thanks to {av} as always for hosting us!

{Friday's Fancies} Labor Day & a Kitty Dress

This little girl is very excited that September is just around the bend! While it's still a bit warm here in Texas, we have been getting a break from triple digits, and I dare say I've even found myself starting to get a bit chilly here and there. (I'm cold-natured, so really anything below 90 degrees means I'm probably looking for a blankie.)

We'll be out and about tomorrow, getting my hair did, shopping for some furniture for the new digs (hoping for some great sales), and visiting the lakehouse to plan evening lighting for the wedding. A day of running amuck necessitates an ensemble that is no-fuss, practical (hello, flats and satchel), yet cute enough to hang in Dallas. (Big D folks can be pretty fancy, y'all.)

Hoops // Bag // Polish
Dress // Belt // Sunnies // Flats

Quirky patterns like this can be really fun when paired with understated accessories. You've gotta rock that, "Oh yeah, these are kitties" confidence if you're gonna sport something like this. I'm a big fan of light and feminine dresses, especially while it's still a bit warm. (Naturally, a light cardigan is never too far away.) And I am of the mindset that hoops can make any outfit seem more pulled together yet easy-going...nevermind these babies cost more than my car. Casual, right? To balance the blush tones of this look, I'd pair it with my favorite nod to fall's impending arrival: OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. (Let's be honest: this polish is tied for favorite with the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Winning combo right there, folks.)

Wishing you all a lovely weekend! Rock those kitties, y'all.

{Friday's Fancies} Short & Sweet

I am not exactly what you'd call a shorts girl. I'm wicked pale, y'all, and growing up in Southern California, surrounded by bronzed bodies, I covered up my pasty stems on the regular. However, I live in Texas now. It is a special kind of hot up in here. So like or not, I sport shorts from time to time. When I do bare my lily white legs, I opt for comfy shorts that ride lower on my hips and cover more of my leg, creating more of a casual vibe. (In fact, I often buy shorts in a size bigger than I usually wear to accomplish this fit.) Paired with a cute, summery top and some sassy accessories, a well-balanced warm-weather look can make you feel like a million bucks...even if you're quite certain you're blinding folks with the white bounce from your shins.

Happy weekend, y'all!

{Friday's Fancies} Memorial Day Weekend Travel

While I imagine many of y'all have big plans to hang by the pool and enjoy some frosty adult beverages this weekend, M and I are embarking on our long-awaited vacation to the Pacific Northwest. In other words, we're trading in pina coladas and sunscreen for strong coffee and hoodies. And truth be told, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tote // Sunglasses // Top // Studs
Denim // Watch // Shoes

I broke form a bit to incorporate a little patriotic love into my FF look. This get-up would be perfect for flying into West Coast coolness, and a sturdy tote is one of my must-haves for traveling. Low fuss-factor and comfy shoes, that's the way I roll when on the road.

I'm looking so forward to exploring Nor. Cal, Oregon and Washington with my honey, and I've got some exciting news to share with y'all in the near future, so stay tuned!

Friday's Fancies {Color Crush}

If you've caught my last few Friday's Fancies looks, it's probably no surprise that I'm crushing big time on coral. (This bright peachy hue and aqua always seem to pop up amongst my go-to neutrals.) I've found that working with pieces in variations of a fabulous color has been a great anchor for me when attempting to mix prints. This spunky look would be great for grabbing a cocktail and some appetizers with my honey, then jaunting off to the movies and cuddling up for the show.

{Friday's Fancies} Date Night

I just adore a proper date night with my honey! It can be easy to forgo getting dolled up, especially if you've been together for a bit, but it makes such a difference in the vibe of the evening. You walk a little taller, he holds you a little tighter, and even the most routine Saturday night can feel like a special one. Sure, it doesn't take an outfit to make a great evening. But throw on some black skinnies, fabulous heels, a sexy-meets-sweet blouse and some baubles, and just see if you can avoid a date worth remembering.

Earrings // Polish // Ring // Shoes
Blouse // Skinnies // Watch // Bangle // Bag

(Are you sensing a theme in my Friday's Fancies? Because I am. This little girl is clearly a fan of pops of coral and aqua. Moral of the story: must add more of these hues to my arsenal. I recently purchased a great statement necklace in aqua, an item for which I have been searching for months, and I have to tell you, it makes such a huge difference in styling my humdrum-to-me closet. Amazing how an $18 item can bring new life to a perfectly acceptable closet of clothes.)

Happy weekend, friends!

{Friday's Fancies} Pretty in Pastels

For years I was under the impression that pale gals shouldn't wear pastels. But you know what? That's a lie. Though tones may be selected with care to best compliment one's coloring and features, the soft palette of spring is slowly creeping into most of my looks these days.

Sunnies // Purse // Flats
Top // Belt // Skirt
Earrings // Bangle // Ring

Yes, I am mildly obsessed with the Alexander McQueen bangles. And his snakeskin flats. And since pops of aqua keep showing up in my Fancies, I've got my eye on this lovely ring (similar to the one pictured above for a tenth of the price) to bring home in the near future.

Happy weekend, dear readers!

{Friday's Fancies} April Showers

The transition to spring often brings a few rainstorms interspersed amongst the days of frolic in the sunshine, but I don't mind one bit. I'm a indoor girl at heart, and the rain suits me just fine. Especially when it gives you the excuse to carry a sassy umbrella, rock a classic trench, and strap on some heels. (I know high heels must seem counter-intuitive when the weather is bad, but for those of you who have faced a day in soaking wet flats, having submerged them in a deceptively deep puddle o' water, you know where I'm coming from.)

Umbrella // Bangle // Trench // Earrings
Shoes // Polish // Skinnies // Ring // Purse

Must. get. colored. skinnies. Well, that, and everything else in this collage. (Though I'm not willing to spend $350 on nail polish. Ever.) And I actually have those heels in my closet. They're fantabulous and I can nearly walk in them without looking like a giraffe.

Stay dry out there, y'all! Happy weekend.

{Friday's Fancies} Feminine Floral

The arrival of spring makes you (or maybe just me) do funny things. Like want to wear dresses. And florals. And pink nail polish. (OPI's Mod About You, at the moment.) Or maybe I'm just finally coming out of the girly closet with a vengeance.

This spring I plan to brave baring my uber pale legs so I can frolic about in outfits like this:

Cardigan // Clutch // Dress // Sunnies
Earrings // Rings // Heels

That's right. Frolic. In a cardigan. Won't you join me?

Happy weekend, y'all!

{Friday's Fancies} St. Patty's Day Sass

St. Patrick's Day is the perfect holiday on which to rock one of my favorite colors: green. (In fact, it's kind of a rule.) This look doesn't exactly scream green beer and Irish-themed shenanigans, but it's nevertheless a classic nod to the occasion.

Sunnies // Studs // Sweater // Necklace
Ring // Tote // Skirt // Flats

If you're feeling festive, add a Strongbow to the ensemble and you've got yourself a sassy, fun look that will spare you a pinch. (Though there is no guarantee that you won't be drunkenly heckled for drinking sissy beer. Own it, y'all.)

{Friday's Fancies} Spring Break

Still feeling a bit under the weather and far too pensive to blog it out just yet, creating a look for this week's Friday's Fancies is just the reprieve I needed. This week we're welcoming Spring Break, which is funny considering (a) it's raining and overcast as can be here in Fort Worth and (b) I haven't had a Spring Break since 2004. All the more reason to bring on the breezy outfits and lively colors, I say!

Sunnies // Scarf // Tank // Hoops // Bracelet
Tote // Skirt // Belt // Flips

I'm a neutrals girl at heart, y'all, but this look incorporates just enough color to put a little spring in my step and makes me long for a visit to So Cal. (There's something very centering about being on that coast, overlooking the waves and hearing the pelicans carry on. Hints of home for me, really.) I opted for a few weightier accessories--a washed leopard print scarf and chocolate brown weaved belt--to transition between seasons, while keeping everything else light and airy.

{Friday's Fancies} Oscar-worthy

With the Oscars going on this weekend (Sunday at 6pm CST), it's all about Hollywood Glam for this week's Friday's Fancies. If I were traipsing down the Red Carpet, here's the fancy I'd be sporting...

{Friday's Fancies} Let's Fly Away

This is my first Friday's Fancies, y'all, and I'm super excited! This week we're flying away to dream destinations and packing an outfit to fit the locale. In a surprising turn of events, I've chosen Paris. You're shocked. I know.

So loverly.

Earlier this week
I was craving a romantic sidewalk date with my honey, but today I'm thinking we grab a baguette, some soft cheese and a bottle of wine, and head to one of the many lovely parks for a Parisian picnic. This calls for a flirty ensemble with pops of color, a nod to French style, and a portable blankie to keep grass stains off of my sassy dress.

Earrings // Sunnies // Tote // Dress

Where would you head off to, dear readers?
